New Law Requires Training to Prevent Workplace Violence
Commissionaires Great Lakes offers one-day compliance workshop
April 1, 2010, Toronto, ON – A new one-day workshop offered by Commissionaires Great Lakes helps businesses understand, and comply with, Bill 168, provincial labour legislation comes into effect in June, 2010. The new Ontario law imposes significant new demands on employers to protect their employees from workplace violence and harassment. Specifically, the new law requires employers to develop new policies and procedures relating to the investigation and reporting of incidents of workplace violence. Before developing such a program, employers are also obliged to complete a risk assessment of violence hazards that may arise in the workplace.

Crime is common thread in companies’ top three security priorities
February 4, 2010, Toronto, ON – Protecting property, and preventing vandalism, break-ins and theft, together represent the top security concern of GTA businesses that have security personnel, according to a comprehensive survey conducted by The Strategic Counsel on behalf of Commissionaires Great Lakes, a leading security organization. Rounding out the top three security concerns are preventing unauthorized access, and protecting people, respectively.

Survey Reveals need for Second Careers after Life in the Canadian Forces
Canadians wrongly believe that most veterans retire with pensions
November 5, 2009, Toronto, ON – Canadians overestimate how long the average veteran serves in the Canadian Forces (CF) and how many of them retire with pensions, according to a Nanos Research survey released today by Commissionaires in time for Remembrance Day. In reality, only about 30 percent of veterans have earned pensions when they retire from the Canadian Forces. A strong majority of those surveyed believe that at least half of veterans retire with pensions, and more than 28 percent of Canadians believe that all veterans do.
